Your Coffee House Dictionary

So you love your lattes and cappuccinos, but you still feel a little bit intimidated about some of the drinks on the menu at your local coffee shop? Not to fear because here are some of the terms broken down for you so that you can order them in the future. Here you go!

  • Americano: This is an espresso shot with hot water added to it, so it is similar to a strong coffee drink.
  • Cappuccino: This is a shot of espresso that has one third steamed milk added to it, and the rest topped with foam.
  • Double: This is you ordering an extra shot of espresso in your drink that would normally contain one.
  • Espresso con Panna: Espresso with whipped cream.
  • Espresso Macchiato: Espresso with foam.
  • Half-caf: This is half caffeine and half regular in your coffee or espresso.
  • Latte: This is a shot of espresso with two thirds steamed milk, and the topped with one third foam.
  • Triple: This is you adding a third shot to an espresso drink that already contains two.

I hope this was helpful! This can be your Coffee Lover's Bible to enable you to easily order some basic and delicious drinks at your local coffee house, and be sure to try something new!
