Rice Coffee: Java Alternative?

If you have not yet heard of rice coffee, then you may be interested to know that it is a coffee alternative that does not involve coffee beans at all. This is a drink that specifically became popular in the Philippines when it was passed on by the Americans fighting there in World War II.

This is ideal for countries who may not be able to afford to import the more expensive coffee beans, and who also have rice readily available to them. The rice is roasted over an open flame, and it is then pounded down with a mortar and pestle to create something that is similar to coffee grounds. On a larger scale, machines can be used to crush the roasted rice, and it is often packaged in tea bags. This is a very lucrative business opportunity, especially since rice is so inexpensive and easy to grow.

Of course, your rice coffee will not have caffeine or any of the flavors of Java, but keep in mind that it is something that is enjoyed all over the world as a low-cost coffee treat. The only way to truly decide for yourself is to brew a cup of rice coffee and see what it has to offer!

Simple Tricks For Low Cal Coffee

What you don't know can hurt you, and blended coffee drinks at commercial coffee shops can have up to 500 calories in them. Shocking! If you are having these drinks in addition to your daily calorie count, then you're probably in trouble and in danger of gaining extra pounds and inches within the blink of an eye.

Luckily, there are easy ways to reduce your coffee calorie count, and some of those include making your coffee at home. At home, you have the option to create an iced or blended coffee, and all you have to do is chill your espresso or coffee beforehand. After that, you can add reduced fat milk, but make sure that you are not using whole milk or heavy cream. You can sweeten your coffee with a low cal sweetener or even one of the many flavored syrups available that are sugar and calorie free.

When you are at a coffee shop ordering a drink, stick to the same principles, and always refuse whipped cream on your coffee drink. This will cut out a large amount of calories, it is preferable to also order with nonfat milk and sugar-free syrups. Even better, consider drinking your coffee black as a calorie free way to enjoy the true flavors that a rich cup of Java provides!

Are Topless Coffee Shops The New Business Venture?

If you are looking for a great start-up idea, then you may want to consider a topless coffee shop! There have been several popping up in the past few years, including the one that burnt down in Maine. This topless coffee shop in Maine was seen as a way to potentially revive the stagnant economy in this area, though many of the locals were concerned with having a sleazy clientele.

More interesting, however, is the fact that there were 10 job openings, and over 150 people applied! To be fair, there were a few male servers working there, who were topless as well.

My only question is as to the safety of this job position because I have seen many people working in a coffee shop who have spilled hot Java on themselves and risked getting burned - while wearing shirts! Hopefully this company has some great insurance to ensure that all of their employees are protected from any type of third-degree burns to their bare chests. Either way, this seems to be the business venture of the new millennium, so keep your eyes open for a topless coffee shop near you!

How To Select The Best Travel Coffee Mug!

A good travel coffee mug can be your very best friend, especially when you are a coffee addict on the go! Here are a few things to consider when travel coffee mug shopping so that you get everything that you are looking for.

First of all, you definitely want an easy grip handle that will allow you to fit all of your fingers around it. Your travel mug should not be hot because it is insulated like a thermos, but you do want to be able to hold it comfortably when you are walking around. Also, many travel coffee mugs have clips on them to enable you to clip them to your purse or backpack, which is perfect if you are hiking, walking, or catching a bus.

Make sure that your travel coffee mug is insulated with double walled stainless steel because this will keep it from sweating. It also works to keep your coffee product hotter for a longer period of time, while the outside remains cool to touch.

You should also consider what type of lid you want, whether it will be a twist or push lid. This is important because this seal will make sure that your coffee does not spill on you when you are on the way to work. It also will be part of keeping your Java incredibly hot and fresh the entire time it is in your travel mug.

A travel coffee mug is a true necessity for any coffee lover out and about!

Does Italian Espresso Taste Different Than American Espresso?

As a coffee connoisseur, you probably have your espresso enjoyment down to a science, including just the exact consistency in how you brew your shot. However, you may be interested to find that although Italy is the birthplace of espresso as we know it, the American espresso we enjoy is much different than the original!

Italian espresso is darker and smokier, and they often use a small amount of Robusta beans within their grinds. Robusta beans are seen as the cheaper filler beans, and Americans are more likely to use Arabica beans from Hawaii, Africa, or Indonesia. The reason for this is that these beans provide a much smoother and milder flavor, as opposed to the darker and more burnt taste of Italian espresso.

Italian espresso roasters also prefer to roast their espresso beans much darker than American roasters do. They truly like a smoky and dark flavor, which is why they continue on in the roasting process until the roast has a much deeper texture. For us Americans, we definitely like a milder and smoother taste to our espresso, which is how it has been commercialized in our country.

Either way, I can tell you that I am always up for an espresso any time, from coast to coast!

Unlock Hawaii's Beauty Secret - Coffee Spa Treatments!

If you have ever been to Hawaii, then you have probably noticed the beautiful scenery, as well as all of the beautiful natives. Obviously, Hawaii is a wonderful place for coffee production, and they have the ideal climate to grow premium coffee crops. Because of the humidity, temperature, and altitude available, Hawaii is one of the world's leading coffee producing countries.

But did you know that Hawaii also uses coffee as their secret beauty weapon? In many reputable Hawaiian spas, they are now administering coffee beauty treatments in the form of body scrubs, where coffee grounds are used to exfoliate. This is an amazing way to slough off dead skin from head to toe! It will also work to use the antioxidant benefits of coffee to protect the skin from sun damage by neutralizing free radicals in the cells underneath the surface.

If you want to try this at home, there are many exotic coffee body scrubs available for sale, and it will give you the opportunity to use the natural acids found in Java to soften and revive dull skin. Coffee is the best kept beauty secret to rejuvenate and revitalize your complexion!

How To Make a Coffee and Clove Body Scrub

These are two ingredients that you definitely want to have within your beauty routine! Coffee is a wonderful, natural antioxidant, which is why it is so ideal to use within your beauty treatments. It will offer you the benefit of neutralizing free radicals under the surface of your skin to prevent damage to your cells. This will immediately reduce the appearance of age and also prevent disease.

Clove has other natural benefits, but in skin care, it is especially helpful to reduce acne. That is why it is such a vital ingredient within this body scrub because you can prevent breakouts from head to toe!

Here are the ingredients that you will need:

3/4 cup Coffee beans
• 1/3 cup Brown sugar
• 1 tsp. Ground cloves
• 1 tbsp. Olive oil
• 2 tbsp. Vanilla extract

To begin, blend together the dry ingredients in your coffee grinder. Place them into a bowl, and then mix in the olive oil and vanilla extract. You can add more olive oil to your liking, but the less that you add, the coarser the scrub will be. Gourmet Coffee Growing Conditions

Gourmet coffee is both a treat and a phenomenon, so it is important to understand the growing conditions that occur so that you can be educated enough to choose the right roast for you.

First of all, gourmet Arabica coffee does have to be grown around the equator between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. This ensures the best temperature, soil, air, cloud cover, and rainfall conditions. The air is actually very important for coffee production, which is why you will find many coffee harvests on island regions. This is precisely because as the air pushes over the ocean, it becomes much cleaner and leaves pollutants behind. By the time it reaches the island coffee crop, it is pure and fresh, which is just what is needed for gourmet coffee production.

Another thing to keep in mind is that a mountainous or volcanic region is ideal for gourmet coffee production. The higher the altitude, the richer and fuller the flavor of the coffee bean. This is a prime example as to why many popular gourmet coffee beans come from Hawaii, which has the volcanic areas that are perfect for coffee production.

Regardless of where you choose your gourmet coffee beans from, consider it just one more way to enjoy a premium cuppa Joe!

Top 3 Coffee Brewing Methods

These are all methods that you are probably familiar with, but how do you know what is the best of the best?

First of all, we have to take into consideration a traditional drip brewed cup of Joe on a home coffee maker. This is a very popular coffee brewing method, but it also is in question because it does use paper filters. Paper filters separate the essential oils from the final brew product, so your cup of Joe will not taste as full or rich as it could.

Maybe you should consider brewing your coffee with a French Press? This is an alternative method of coffee brewing that uses hot (not boiling) water added to fresh coffee grounds. You can allow this to steep within your French Press for four minutes, and then plunge down the press to push the coffee grounds to the bottom so that you can enjoy your final brew. This cup of Joe does have the essential oils within it, and you will definitely notice a difference in your flavor profile. I told you so!

And last of all, we cannot neglect a great espresso. Home espresso machines are becoming very popular, and an ideal espresso should brew within about 25 seconds. When you brew your espresso, you will want to look for a rich brown crema on top to signify the highest quality.

I would not say that one of these methods is better or worse than the rest because I am all for any way that you can enjoy some premium Java. Which one do you prefer?

Starbucks Sued By Dyslexic Woman

If you haven't heard it all yet, then here's something else to make you even more frustrated at the world today. Apparently, a woman was driving with her Starbucks cup in hand, and she began to read the warning label on the cup. She ended up crashing into another driver, and since it was her fault, she is facing criminal charges.

Even worse, she decided that the best way to handle the situation was to blame the whole thing on Starbucks because she was DYSLEXIC. Now, I have no idea what that has to do with reading while you're driving, whether you have a learning disability or not. She said that the label was confusing to her because it was in such a small print, and she had a hard time deciphering it because of her dyslexia. However, there is no reason that anyone, I repeat anyone, should be reading while they are driving, no matter how well they read!

She is in the middle of a multimillion dollar lawsuit against Starbucks, so it will be interesting to see what happens. Too bad we are in such a sue-happy society that people can't even drink a simple cup of coffee anymore without wanting to press charges!

Is Starbucks Slashing Prices?

This may actually be the day that pigs fly, but there are reports of Starbucks cutting back on their prices all over the nation. There is, of course, a small catch, which is that they will also be raising the prices on some items to make up for it. Boo!

The difference is nominal, and you may not even notice it, but they will be reducing prices on small lattes and coffee is by 5 to 10 cents. However, they will raise prices on frappuccinos and other more complex drinks by up to $.25. Starbucks is definitely feeling the hit of the economy, especially since other chains are trying to rival them in the convenient coffee-to-go business. One of these is McDonald's, who recently introduced their McCafe beverages as a cheaper alternative to a coffee house drink.

If you are a Starbucks fan, this may be great news for you, but even greater news would be in purchasing a quality home coffee maker to save you more cash by brewing at home!

More Coffee Beauty Treatments

If you are trying to think of more innovative ways to use coffee in your home beauty treatments, then you are in luck! Here are some more great ideas of what to do with your beloved brew:

  • Scrub used coffee grounds on your hands as if they were soap to cut out any funky odors that you can't get rid of. Whether it be garlic, fish, or even onions, coffee will neutralize the odors.
  • If you would love to give your hair a treatment for smoothness and shine on the cheap, then apply a shot of strong espresso to your dry hair, and allow it to sit for 20 minutes. Rinse well, and you will notice some definite vibrance and spark to your limp locks!
  • Last but not least, you can also directly use coffee to treat cellulite. Apply used coffee grounds to your problem area, and wrap it up well with Saran wrap to prevent mess. Let it sit for about 30 minutes, and you will notice that the cellulite is minimized because the caffeine in coffee works to smooth out the skin and push water out of the fat cells, which often causes the cottage cheese effect.

As you can see, coffee is a wonderful home beauty remedy, so please feel free to share any of your own tips with me!

Coffee Home Beauty Remedies

If you are always on the lookout for an easy home beauty remedy involving ingredients from your kitchen cabinets, then you are in luck because coffee is at the top of the list! I am going to share with you a simple recipe to make a coffee exfoliating face mask. Here is what you'll need:

  • 1/4 cup used coffee grounds, cooled
  • 1 egg white

See how simple it is already? Make sure that you are using used coffee grounds that have been recently brewed within about 30 minutes, and then mix them thoroughly with your egg white. Massage the mixture onto your face, and allow it to dry completely. You will feel your skin tightening, and this is mainly because of the caffeine in the coffee that is used as a vasodilator to constrict blood vessels and make your face feel firmer. When you are finished, all you have to do is rinse well with warm water, and get ready to see your beautiful and youthful reflection!

How To Maximize The Shelf Life Of Your Coffee Beans

If you are a coffee fan in any way, then I can guarantee that you do not want to be drinking a stale cup of Joe! Am I right? The best way to keep your coffee beans fresh is to purchase them directly from an Internet retailer or roaster where they are freshly roasted the day that they shipped to you (like my website!). This is the only way that you can trust that you'll be getting the best flavor in your fresh coffee beans.

From there, the shelf life will be 10 to 14 days, so it is best to purchase the amount that you will need for about one week. Once you freshly grind your coffee beans, they will only remain fresh for up to two hours. That is why it is important to always freshly grind the amount that you want to use for the coffee you are planning on brewing.

Besides that, make sure that you store your freshly roasted coffee beans in a vacuum sealed container in a cool and dry location. Do not store them in the freezer because this will cause the essential oils to be corrupted because the beans will be depleted of moisture. This will directly and dramatically affect the flavor for the worst.

For the best way to enjoy your coffee, make sure that you are using freshly roasted beans that you grind before you brew!

You can find the best home coffee makers on my website today!

Why Go For Arabica?

You may have heard a lot of buzz about the two varieties of coffee beans that are available on the market, Arabica and Robusta.

Arabica are seen to be the more premium beans, while Robusta are seen to be the cheaper filler variety. If you are purchasing coffee from a specialty outlet (like my website!), then you can count on the fact that the only beans that you will find there are 100% Arabica. However, if you are purchasing your Java from a more general location, like a grocery store, then you need to watch out because you will find that the majority of the blends there do contain Robusta beans as a cheaper option.

Currently, coffee is grown in more than 80 countries around the world in areas near the equator between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. This provides the perfect climate and growing environment for a decadent Java bean, and even more, it is preferred to look for Arabica beans grown at higher altitudes because they provide the best quality.

Make sure that you are purchasing organic when you are purchasing Arabica because that will guarantee that your coffee is harvested in safe conditions without the use of pesticides and also with crop rotation to give further nutrients to the plant. There is nothing more delicious!

For the best flavored coffee beans that are 100% Arabica, you can find them on my website today!

How Did Coffee Become Popular?

Coffee has a deep and dark history, but in the past few decades, there have been different trends contributing to coffee's popularity.

In the 70s and 80s, coffee became increasingly popular in the US because of the marketing of percolators. This was a device that everyone wanted to have within their own home, but it turned out that it was not so easy to use to make a simple coffee brew.

From there, people moved on to the gratification of instant coffee because it allowed them to have a cup of Joe within just a few seconds. There were so many brands of instant coffee available on the market at that time to satiate consumer demand, including several multimillion dollar marketing campaigns to fight out who was the best of the best in instant coffee producers.

This type of instant appeal is exactly what made room for all of the coffee houses that are popular today. This is precisely why so many American coffee drinkers want to sit in a Starbucks line for up to 15 minutes just to get an quick latte or cappuccino made to their liking. Can you blame them?

For the best Bunn Coffee Makers, you can find them on my website today!

Have You Tried Aged Coffee?

This is an interesting way of preparing Java, similar to the way that you would age a fine wine to bring out its true flavors. Aged coffee beans are left in a warehouse for 2 to 3 years during the aging process, and it is imperative that this happens during a wet season so that the humidity in the air can be absorbed by the beans so that they don't dry out.

When coffee beans are left to age, it allows the body of the coffee to improve, and it also lowers the acidity. If you are someone who does not like a full acidity in your body of coffee, then you are going to love the taste of aged beans because it brings out a mellow flavor that is rich in its quality.

You do have to keep in mind that aged coffee beans will be slightly more expensive because most coffee exporters are not interested in aging their beans. Coffee is the second highest traded commodity in the world next oil, so it only makes sense that coffee exporters do want to export their crops fast so that they can get the maximum profit. This is why aged coffee beans are much more rare because of the time investment involved.

Does Coffee Improve Work Performance?

This is a very interesting topic, and it turns out that the answer is yes! I know everyone is currently celebrating at this news, but let me explain to you the science behind this process.

Caffeine is actually a stimulant, so it will work to improve your focus and increase attention span. This is precisely why coffee is proven to improve mental performance and also elevate the mood, making it perfect for the work environment. The best way to drink your coffee is to have a cup of Joe at the beginning of the day, so the caffeine can directly move to your brain within 20 minutes. This wonderful effect will last for up to six hours, which is precisely why it is recommended to split up your coffee consumption so that you can have these benefits all day long without a nasty caffeine crash.

Furthermore, when you're ending your productive work day thanks to your beloved coffee, be sure to have another cup before you go to the gym because caffeine and coffee also improve physical performance. You can work out stronger and harder with better results, all thanks to a little Java that goes a long way!

Coffee Myths Revealed!

You may think that you know so much about coffee, but let's check your trivia knowledge to make sure that you are on the right track!

First of all, should you give a cup of coffee to someone who is drunk to sober them up? No! This will only make them an alert drunk, and the coffee will also dehydrate them further so that their hangover is worse the next day. This is something you definitely want to avoid!

Does coffee help your problem solving skills? Yes! This is something that you want to keep in mind when you are starting your work or school day because coffee has been proven to increase reaction time, help with problem solving, and enhance muscle coordination.

Does coffee affect sleep? Maybe. If you are downing a cup of Joe directly before you go to bed, then you probably will have problems sleeping. However, if you are drinking it in the daytime, then it should pose no issue to you. If you're sensitive to caffeine, you may want to avoid coffee several hours before bed, and that does include decaf because decaf coffee still has trace amounts of caffeine in it.

How To Choose Amazing Artisan Coffee

There are so many types of coffee harvested daily, but only a select few have the honor of being called artisan or gourmet coffee. These are the best of the best, and they are cultivated in strict and regulated growing conditions to ensure the highest quality. These kinds of gourmet coffee beans do require perfect soil and climate conditions, and you will mainly find them coming from regions like Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.

When you get ready to choose your favorite gourmet artisan coffee, then there are a few things for you to keep in mind. You will want to determine the body, acidity, flavor, and roast that suits you best. If this sounds like a daunting task, then don't worry, because there is no right answer! It is entirely up to your taste buds.

The body of the coffee is the way the heaviness feels on your tongue, so you get to either decide on a full or light bodied cup of Joe. The brightness refers to the acidity of the coffee, and all Java needs acidity so that it does not taste flat as a result. High acidity in the coffee will make it taste tangy and bright on your tongue. Next, you can consider which flavors you prefer in your gourmet coffee, which is similar to a wine tasting. You can decide if the artisan coffee you like is chocolatey, caramelly, fruity, earthy, or smoky.

And last of all you get to choose which roast type you like the best! Coffee is roasted until the beans crack for the first time, so the longer that it is roasted, the darker the roast will be. If you prefer a lighter roast, then you must select gourmet coffee beans that were roasted only after the first crack of the beans.

The options available to you are endless!

What Processes Are Used To Make Instant Coffee?

As a coffee lover, you do not necessarily need to turn your nose up at an instant cup of Joe, you just need to know which process to look for to make sure that all of the flavors are still there when you create your instant coffee product.

There are two processes used to make instant coffee, freeze drying and spray drying. Freeze drying is the preferred method because the coffee product is left out so that all of the water naturally evaporates, leaving a coffee concentrate. This concentrate is then frozen, and the ice is taken out of the freeze dried coffee crystals in a process called sublimation. This allows the essential oils to remain in the freeze dried coffee crystals so that your instant cup of Joe is as delicious as ever.

Spray drying also does allow water to evaporate so that a coffee concentrate is formed again, and then this concentrate is placed in a hot air chamber so that the water is evaporated at a high temperature. This leaves coffee crystals at the bottom of the chamber, but the essential oils are zapped from the product because of the high heat that is used.

Keep these facts in mind when looking for premium instant coffee to give you some added convenience during travel, camping, or even baking!

Learn How To Make The Best Iced Coffee For The Summertime

Knowing how to make an expert iced coffee is a must if you want to be a coffee lover all year round. Read on for some easy tips and the best ways to make a delicious iced coffee that will keep you cool on a hot summer day!

  • First of all, make sure that you freeze coffee ice cubes in advance in an ice cube tray in your freezer. This is absolutely the only way to make an iced coffee because these coffee ice cubes will not water down your drink as they melt.
  • Next, get creative and use a variety of flavored syrups or liquors to sweeten up your drink and give it a little kick. Personally, I recommend using either Bailey's, KahlĂșa, or Amaretto to add a nice little pop to your drink.
  • Lastly, try a different variety of summer coffee drinks by first blending your coffee ice cubes in a blender before you add them to your drink. This is a simple tip, and it will give a great slushy quality to your drink as a result, making it even more delicious.

How Do You Choose The Best Tasting Coffee?

As a coffee connoisseur, it is important that you keep a few things in mind when you are trying to choose the best cup of Joe.

First of all, consider the method in which your coffee was grown. It is best to look for higher growing standards, such as Fair Trade or Organic coffee. This will directly contribute to the taste of your coffee beans, depending on the quality in the growing process. Furthermore, you can take the time to explore different regions of the world because specific soils and climates will increasingly affect the taste of your Java.

Next, you can begin to sample a variety of different coffees based on all of their various characteristics, such as the acidity, aroma, flavor, and body. These are all of the different impressions that you will get from your cup of Joe, but the greatest part of all is that you get to choose which one best complements your palette!

For instance, you may like a coffee with a fruity aroma and a light acidity that has a nutty flavor. If you prefer a lighter roast of coffee, it may also have a light or more gentle body on your tongue, meaning that it leaves a smoother finish in your mouth.

Delicious!

The Best Coffee Brewing Methods For Camping

Sure, when you are camping, you act all rough and tough like you don't need any modern conveniences... That is, until it's morning time, and you gotta have your cup of Joe! Let me start by saying that you can still hold your head high and enjoy a delicious Java in the wilderness with these easy methods.

The first one I recommend is using a travel French press, which is especially designed to extract one scoop of coffee grounds with hot water in a convenient travel cup that keeps the mess to a minimum. Otherwise, you can take your French press out to the wilderness with you, but only if it is the Bodum French Press brand made of unbreakable polycarbonate glass.

A Moka pot is another fantastic option because you can place it directly over your campfire heat to brew a fresh cup of Joe. It is a two chamber pot, where you will place water in the bottom and coffee grounds in the center of the pot. When you heat it over the campfire, the water will boil up through the coffee grounds and extract into the top chamber for a delicious brew product.

Last, but not least, consider a small Turkish coffee pot to take with you. You can brew this over your campfire with hot water and very finely ground coffee beans. Once it brews, let the grounds settle to the bottom of the container so that you will be able to drink your dark and delicious cup of Joe.

This is just one more reason why we can thank God for nature - when we can face the morning with a fresh cup of Joe!

How Does Coffee Protect Your Health?

This is a fantastic question that every coffee drinker needs to have answered because it is so wonderful to discover that your morning beverage is doing more than just waking you up to start the day! The list is as follows:

  • Coffee directly lowers the risk for liver cancer, and it slightly lessens the risk of colon cancer.
  • Coffee also has the capability to reduce the risk of type II diabetes, whether you are drinking decaf or regular. Your risk can be reduced by up to 50% because coffee contains chlorogenic acid, and this ingredient slows the intake of glucose into the intestines. This is especially important for anyone at risk of diabetes.
  • Coffee is going to protect your heart and slightly reduce the risk of stroke by up to 19% when you are drinking 2 to 3 cups per day.
  • Coffee also does shield the liver from cirrhosis damage, especially when it is triggered from alcoholism.
  • Coffee does prevent the onset of Parkinson's disease because of the caffeine content. It dramatically lowers the risk in men, and also in women who aren't taking post-menopausal hormone supplements.

Isn't this wonderful? The list of coffee and health benefits is getting longer and longer, making it even more enticing to drink to your health!

Does Drinking Coffee Lead To Healthy Teeth?

This is a very interesting development from the coffee study camp, but it has been found that coffee has antibacterial and anti-adhesive benefits. This is exactly what you need to keep your teeth protected and healthy, as well as to prevent cavities!

The studies show that both regular and decaf coffee have anti-adhesive benefits, which are also derived from the compound that gives coffee it's delightful flavor and aroma. These work to protect the surface of your teeth so that bacteria does not adhere to them, which also safeguards you from tooth decay. Since coffee is also antibacterial, it will keep any extra bacteria from forming and further harming your teeth. Yes, coffee may have gotten a bad rap because of the so-called "coffee breath", but it turns out that bacteria is the culprit behind that as well.

Laptops Banned From Coffee Shops in NYC?

This is ever so interesting, especially when you think about the fact that laptops and coffee shops normally go hand-in-hand. Primarily, coffee shops were developed as a place for socialization, business, and decision-making, which is exactly why you see so many people working or surfing the Internet during their down time at a coffee shop.

The reason that many New York cafés are banning the use of laptops is because they are finding that people are simply sitting there for hours at a time without purchasing enough coffee to make up for it. I used to be a server at a restaurant, so I know what it is like to deal with these types of customers, but I have to emphasize that it is a COFFEE SHOP, and not a restaurant. This is exactly what they are designed for! Or so I thought...

This is not a citywide ban; it only is occurring in select locations, but many other cafés are following suit and banning the use of laptops during peak hours. What will come next? No books? No iPods? No socialization? I am disappointed.

Are You Ready To Wear Your Coffee?

This is such a fantastic concept, and I am surprised that it has not been thought of earlier, but Jason Chen of Taiwan has created a clothing line using discarded coffee grounds. This is specifically a sportswear line, and the fabric is formulated in such a way that it uses about 1 cup of coffee grounds for several garments.

Since it is a sportswear line, it is lightweight and easy to wear. It also works to wick away moisture from your skin, so it keeps you from smelling badly and being drenched in sweat when you are working out. This is an eco-friendly clothing line, and these garments are best for active and outdoor wear. The fabric is breathable, and it is also UV resistant, so you will get a great run for your money.

Apparently, the creator had the idea for his coffee ground clothing line when he was sipping a cup of Joe at Starbucks, and I am loving it. The only drawback I can think of is that you will not get a contact high from the caffeine in the coffee while wearing the clothes. I wish!

A Coffee Flavored ICEE?

Are you getting brain freeze just thinking about it? I myself am drooling because I've always been a fan of the ICEE beverages, ever since I was a kid. I am used to them coming in wild colors like red, blue, and yellow, but I think that coffee will be a fantastic alternative. ICEE is teaming up with the Javo Beverage company to produce these fast and frozen coffee beverages in any location that already sells ICEEs.

I personally am thinking that ICEE is now going to give Starbucks a run for their money, especially since McDonald's already tried to do the same by introducing cheaper and more convenient coffee to go beverages. This is the time in our economy that people still want delicious and fast coffee, but they also don't want to pay five dollars per latte any more.

The flavors that you have to look forward to courtesy of a brain freeze are caramel latte and mocha latte. Mmm!

How Is Colombian Coffee Grown?

If you are fan of rich and delicious Colombian Coffee, then you may have wondered exactly how it is cultivated to yield your delicious cup of Joe.

First of all, the coffee trees that produce Colombian Coffee beans take almost 4 years to reach their maturity, and then they will sprout coffee berries and flowers after six months at their full height. One coffee tree will equal 1 pound of Colombian coffee, and when the berries turn ripe red, they are ready to be harvested. When the coffee berries are harvested, they are put through a de-pulping machine to separate the pulp from the beans inside. There are normally two coffee beans within each berry, and the pulp is then put back into fertilizer to nurture other plants.

To be processed, the coffee beans are soaked for 24 hours in cold water, which allows them to begin to ferment to develop a richer flavor and aroma. They are then rinsed off in long troughs, which is what is unique about Colombian Coffee to give it deep flavors. The beans are dried in an open air area by the sun and wind, and they have to be constantly rotated and covered at night to protect them from being corrupted from moisture.

Furthermore, keep in mind that Colombia regulates all of their coffee plantations meticulously to ensure that you are going to have the best product in your Colombian cup of Joe!

How Do You Brew Stovetop Espresso?

If you are confused about the best way to use your stovetop espresso pot, then read on for some great information!

First of all, this was first called the Moka Pot by the manufacturers, the Bialetti Company, enabling it to then became a popular household name. One thing to keep in mind is that it is still so important to finely grind your espresso beans to place into the center filter compartment. However, you do not need to pack them as tightly as you would with a regular espresso machine because this could cause leaking or a minor explosion during the brew process.

From that point, fill the bottom chamber of your stove top espresso pot with water, and then secure the filter on top of that. Top with the upper chamber, and make sure the entire pot is sealed well. Allow it to brew slowly at a low heat for the best flavor and extraction. One great idea is to pour a little of the espresso out into a cup as it brews to mix with a teaspoonful of sugar so it dissolves fully. By the time the rest of your espresso brews, you can pour it into your cup with the sugar mixture for a delicious and convenient taste! Don't you feel better?

What Is an Espresso Machine?

You may be all about your daily espresso, but do you know exactly how an espresso machine works? The first thing to remember is that there are automatic and semi-automatic models. The semi-automatic models will cause you to do a little more work, but they will also allow you to have more control of your brew. The automatic models are more geared toward commercial settings, but they are also preferable for home use because they will give you impeccable quality and keep you from running to Starbucks. They may be an investment, but they will save you money in the long run!

Espresso machines work with a pump to pull water out of the heating chamber, and this will give the water pressure needed to extract the espresso through the fine grounds within the filter. Interestingly enough, the first espresso machine was used in Milan, Italy, in the early 20th century. However, it didn't become popularized until the 1940s when steam was developed to be used to pump the water through the espresso for extraction. Espresso machines also work with measured bars of pressure as well as a pressure gauge control to keep the heater engaged if the pressure becomes too low during use. The pressure will be a component in pushing the water through the espresso grounds for a premium extraction.

Finally, when you are brewing your espresso with your espresso machine, make sure that the extraction is for no longer than 25 seconds. This is the ideal time for brewing a fine espresso shot, and you will have the rich crema on top to prove it!

Yes, it may seem cheesy, but that is exactly why a coffee favor is perfect for a wedding favor idea!

So what else can you think of to be creative and integrate Java into your wedding day? Chocolate covered coffee beans? Coffee candles? A decorative coffee scoop engraved with the name of the bride and groom? The options are truly endless, but it all starts with a cup of Joe.

What To Avoid When Making Turkish Coffee

Making Turkish coffee may seem like a daunting task at first, but it happens to be incredibly easy when you know the right precautions to take.

Here are a few things to avoid when making your Turkish coffee:

  • First, focus on grinding your beans to a fine powdery form, even finer than you would for an espresso.
  • Next, do not bring your water to a boil because it could burn the coffee grounds and make them taste bitter.
  • Do not use a Turkish coffee pot that is too big. It should hold three small espresso cups of coffee total so that it has the capability to brew and produce a crema on top of your coffee.
  • Keep in mind that you need to use 1 teaspoon of coffee grounds to every small espresso cup of water, with a maximum of 2 teaspoons to the small espresso cup of water for a stronger coffee.
  • Add your sugar before you bring the coffee to a boil so that it can naturally dissolve and sweeten during the brew process.

See how easy this is? Turkish coffee is a fantastic way to enjoy a new spin on your favorite brew, and now you have the skills to execute it perfectly!
